Mrs B. F. Hartshorn , who was Miss Nancy M. Fretwell, was born January 6th, 1836, at Meadville, Pa. She died at the home of her daughter Mrs. C.W. Miller, in Wadena Thursday Oct. 7, 1920 at 8 o'clock in the evening.

She was married to Benjamin Franklin Hartshorn at Viroqua, (Verona Co.) Wis, Dec. 22, 1859. They lived for a while at Viroqua and Reeds Landing, Wis. and moved to Mason City, IA. At an early day they were among the early settlers of that city. In1879 they moved to Minnesota and settled at Fawn Lake, and since that time have lived at Motley,(Morrison Co) Verndale, (Wadena Co.) Staples, (Todd Co.) Walker, (Cass Co.) and Philbrook, (Todd Co.) until the fall of 1915, when they moved to Wadena where she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. C. W. Miller until her death. There were six children in this family, the only one surviving one being Mrs. C. W. Miller . Mrs Hartshorn was 84 years, 9 months and 1 day old, and was the last of a family of fourteen children. She was a member of the Motley Relief Corps and had been a lifelong member of the Episcopal church. She was buried at Motley, Saturday, October 9.

She had been in failing health for some time before she finally passed to the beyond. A large concourse of friends attended the funeral services and many accompanied the remains to the last resting place at Motley [Public Cemetery]. Both services were conducted by Rev. E. S. Murphy, rector of St. Helen's Church.
