Mason City-Opal F. Everhart, 88, of IOOF Home, formerly of 1315 Eighth St S.E., died Monday (Nov. 22, 1999) at the IOOF Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. James Lutheran church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call form 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Major Erickson Funeral home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services at the church.

Opal F. Everhart was born on her grandparents farm near Milford, Ill. on September 22, 1911 to John A. and Elfrieda (Boldman) Brazel. At a young age, her family moved to a farm near Albert Lea, Minnesota, then to a farm east of Northwood. She attended country school until the eighth grade, then graduated from Northwood high School in 1930. Opal worked for a few years before attending Iowa Beauty School in Des Moines. She then worked for a few shops in the area.

On June 13, 1936, Opal was united in marriage to Harry A. Everhart at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed south of Mason City until moving to Mason City in 1971.

Opal was a longtime member of St. James Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies Aid, Doo-Days and church circles.

She was a devoted farm wife and had a large garden and liked to cook. She also enjoyed making quilts and growing flowers. Opal was active in the Farm Bureau with their monthly meetings.

Her family includes, son Jack Everhart and his wife, Mary, of Mason City; daughters, Maureen Pals and her husband, Leslie, of Mason City and JoAnn Bartusek and her husband, Tony, of Mason City. Seven grandchildren, Mark Everhart and his wife, Diane, of Des Moines; Lee and Jeanine Toole of Council Bluffs; Cindy TeKampe of Waukegan, Illinois; Steve and Peggy Toole of Mason City; Chris and Tim Wendel of Mason City; Lori and Andy Hansen of Chicago, Illinois; and Rachelle Bartusek of Mason City; Ten great-grandchildren; four sisters, Margaret Brazel of Northwood, Gladys Broers of Mason City, Geneva Patterson of Northwood, and Beatrice Brockett of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harry in 1984; granddaughter Renee Bartusek in 1986; two brothers, Virgil and Kenneth; and one sister, Doris.
