Elbert D. "Mike" Djuren, 81, of 318 S. Rhode Island, Mason City, Iowa, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral were held Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Memorials may be given to the Mike Djuren Memorial Fund.

Mike was born Aug. 6, 1924 in Emery, Iowa the son of Siebend and Minnie (Cremer) Djuren. Mike married Betty Martin Feb. 12, 1944 in Minneapolis, Minn. He served during WW II in the U.S. Navy. Following his discharge, he moved to Mason City where he worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Mike owned and operated Federal Barbershop for 30 years. He retired in 1988. Mike was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he had served as an elder, usher, Sunday school teacher and treasurer. He was also a member of the North Iowa Amateur Ham Radio Club and R.S.V.P.. Mike enjoyed spending time with his family and riding his motorcycle.

Mike is survived by his wife, Betty Djuren, of Mason City; son, Dan Djuren and wife, Diane, of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Anthony Djuren and wife, Melinda, of Miami, Fla., Michelle Krecl and husband, Scott, of Redondo Beach, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Alyson and Ryan; sisters, Mae Mitcham of Des Moines and Esther Hougham of Des Moines; several nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harm Djuren; sisters, Marie Varvel, Irene Stoltenberg, Helen Calvert and Edna Hauer.
