Charles “Charlie” “Chuck” Elijah Vosburgh, 89, Mason City, died Saturday, December 19, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 4th Street SE, Mason City, with Reverend Jeni Bohls officiating. Military honors will be conducted by members of the Mason City Veterans of Foreign Wars at the church on Wednesday. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street NE, Mason City.
Visitation will also take place one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery, 11495 265th Street, Mason City. A celebration of his life will also be held in California at the end of January 2016.
Charles Elijah Vosburgh was born on April 16, 1926, in Rockwell, the son of Alto and Pearl (Dienheart) Vosburgh. He received his education in the Rockwell and rural Grafton School system.
Charlie and his family lived in Rockwell from 1926 until 1940, before moving to Manly living there until 1960. He was united in marriage to Odella Hulshizer on February 2, 1960 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. After their marriage they lived in Northwood until April 1960, moving to Mason City.
Charlie worked as a heavy equipment operator for the city of Mason City for 28 years, from 1960 until his retirement in 1988. Charlie also owned several rental homes in Mason City.
Charlie was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling, camping, and spending time in his garage, but his greatest love and enjoyment was spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Charlie was a faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church, St. James Church Club, Mason City Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Odella Vosburgh of Mason City; his children, Judy (Vance) Hakes of Mason City, Sheree (Ray) Squire of Temecula, CA, Larry (Su) Eskildsen of Valley Center, CA, Roger (Jennifer) Eskildsen of Clear Lake, David (Patti) Eskildsen of Bull Head City, AZ, and Lori (John) Fank of Garner; 22 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandsons; two sisters, Leona Burke, and Vina Rish both of Northwood; a brother, Richard (Marlys) Vosburgh of Carlsbad, CA; as well as many nieces, nephews, as well as many other extended family members and friends.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Alto and Pearl Vosburgh; two sons, Jerry Vosburgh, and Steven and his wife Karen Eskildsen; a brother, Raymond Vosburgh and a sister who died in infancy; and a grandson, Brent Eskildsen.
