Sandra “Sandy” Elaine Tyer, 73, Clear Lake, died Saturday, October 10, 2015, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, surrounded by her family.

A funeral service for Sandy will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 15, 2015, at the Zion Lutheran Church, 112 North 4th Street, Clear Lake, with Reverend Kirk Wilkie officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake.

Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service time on Thursday at the church.

The family would like to suggest that those wishing to give a memorial in her memory, and in lieu of flowers may wish to consider memorial contribution to Hospice of North Iowa.

Sandra Elaine (Day) Tyer was born on August 25, 1942, in Hampton, the daughter of John D. and Esther M. (Kruse) Day. She was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hampton. Sandy received her education in the Hampton Community Schools. Sandy was a waitress and bartender at the Viking Lounge in Hampton, Flaming Embers, Jack of Diamond for 17 years, Martha’s Restaurant, for 15 years, the Colony, and the Town Pump. Sandy had been a waitress and a bartender for 45 years.

She was united in marriage to Robert L. Tyer on March 4, 1979, in the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Sandy’s greatest love and enjoyment in life was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Sandy was always willing to lend a helping hand and open her heart to anyone.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Robert “Bob” Tyer of Clear Lake; her children, Jodi Craighton of Clear Lake, James (Julie) Craighton of Ventura, Julie (Shawn) Bogle of Clear Lake, Jeana Duit Amundson of Clear Lake, and Jason (Deha) Tyer of Grafton; daughter-in-law, Lora Meier of Forest City; her step children, Susan Crandall of Oelwein, Dan (Judy) Tyer of Waverly, and Deborah (Kevin) Fitzgerald of Mason City; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Alice (Wayne) Bloom of Park City, Illinois, as well as many other special relatives and friends.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; son, John Craighton; a step daughter, Mary Lee Tyer; and a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara (Harlan) Joslin.
