He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1947, and attended Iowa State University for one year before joining the Navy and serving on a submarine from 2/1951 to 2/1955. He worked for Fawn Industries for 39 years traveling around the country working in the vending industry.

He was preceded in death by parents; and four brothers, Darwin, Cleveland, Cony, and Allen Monaghen, his sister Cecilia, and his son, Thomas.

He is survived by his sister, Margaret Draves of Homer, Alaska, his daughter Teresa M. Monaghen of Omaha, his son Jerome A. Monaghen of St. Paul Park, MN, a daughter, Julie Espinoza of Los Angeles, CA and five grandchildren, Kyle J. Monaghen, Barbara D. Monaghen Vetter, Katherine M. Espinoza, Delanie A. Espinoza, Paloma M. Espinoza, and one great-grandchild Haddie Vetter.
