MASON CITY -- Velma B. Abbott, 91, died Thursday (June 6, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center West.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Richard Scheerer officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today and Monday morning until the time of service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the Velma B. Abbott Memorial Fund.

Velma B. Abbott was born Oct. 25, 1904, in Ogden, a daughter of Ralph and Sylvia (Rose) Morgan. Velma attended school in Odgen, moved to Mason City at age 19 and then attended Hamilton Business College.

She married Cecil W. Abbott on Oct. 14, 1930, at Fulton, Mo. Velma was a bookkeeper for United Dairy, now Allied Purchasing, for 16 years, retiring in October of 1969. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and enjoyed bowling and bridge.

Survivors include her daughter, Joan Tickal, and husband, Donald, of Mason City; nine grandchildren, Jody Adams and husband, Mike, of Mason City, Lori Smith of Mason City, Michael Smith and wife, Meredith, of Phoenix, Ariz., Timothy Tickal of Mason City, Rhonda Mohl and husband, Greg, of Clinton, Key Lynch and husband, Paul, of Audubon, Robert Abbott of Dublin, Ohio, Wesley Abbott and wife, Denise, of Atlanta, Ga., and James Tickal of Minneapolis; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruby Kinney of Boone; a sister-in-law, Arlene Abbott of Maquoketa; and a niece, Dorothy Ann Miller of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Cecil, in 1986, a sister, Vera, and a son, Robert.
