Clear Lake, IA Dorothy (Hannum) (Huber) Hampe, 96, of Clear Lake, IA, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2016 at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City, Iowa surrounded by family.

A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 AM. Monday, August 22, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave S., Clear Lake, with Rev. John Gossman officiating. Visitation with family will be Sunday, 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, IA. and one hour prior to the service at the church. A Scriptural Wake service will be held Sunday, 4:30 PM at the funeral home. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Building Fund in her name.

During a spring blizzard Dorothy was born April 1, 1920 in rural Howard County, Iowa (near Cresco), an April fool blessing to Henry and Margaret (Teske) Hannum. During her formative years the Hannum family lived in Charles City, Iowa where she graduated high school in 1937. Dorothy married Linus Huber December 31, 1938 and was a loving wife until his passing in 1985. The couple raised four children Roger, Stanley, Dotty and Carol.

Dorothy started her working career at the Peerless Photo Finishing Co. in Charles City, over the years she also worked as a secretary-receptionist at State Farm and SSM&T Insurance and with her husband Linus was co-owner-bartender of Huber’s Tap in Charles City.

During her retirement years her love of dancing led her to the Surf Ballroom where she met Don Hampe of Corwith, Iowa. They were wed on September 17, 1990 and lived in Corwith and spent the colder months in Quartzsite, AZ. After Don’s passing Dorothy lived out her remaining years in Clear Lake with the new love of her life Shadow (her cat).

Dorothy was a wonderful cook with people raving over her potato salad and she was also an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed her family time, beating them all at cribbage, showing her sons-in-law and daughters-in-law how to find morels and spending time on the water fishing.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Linus and Don, a brother Stanley Hannum and sister Harriet (Hannun) Hahn.

She is survived by her children Roger (Bonnie) Huber of Charles City, Stanley (Stella) Huber of Urbandale, Dotty (Rodger) Nordman of Clear Lake, Carol (Dan) Bohl of Mason City, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a step-daughter Julie (Jim) Bull of Hackensack, MN and their children and grandchildren.
