Roger Lee Steward, 82 of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

A graveside inurnment will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2015, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Dr., Adel, IA 50003, with military honors provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard.

Family suggests memorial contributions to Clear Lake United Methodist Church, 508 2nd Ave. N., Clear Lake.

Roger was born September 15, 1932, the son of Walter and Helen Pauline Margaret (Gramenz) Steward in Burt, IA. A graduate of Burt High School, 1950, he enlisted in the United States Navy in July, 1951. After serving in active duty until 1955, he served inactive until being honorably discharged in 1959. He graduated from Upper Iowa University in 1961 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, and went on to receive his Master’s Degree in Guidance Counseling from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, MO.

Roger was united in marriage to Marjorie Orr on July 30, 1961 at the Algona Methodist Church, Algona. He taught school for 16 years as a high school teacher in Danville, IA, Madrid, IA, Albert City, IA, and as a counselor in Ventura, IA. While living in North Iowa he took a job with the Des Moines Register as a circulation district manager for 16 years.

Roger was a member of Clear Lake Methodist Church, American Legion, Danville Lodge #48 where he received his 50 year pin, and past member of Order of the Eastern Star in Danville. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing in Minnesota.

Roger is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Clear Lake; a brother, Perry (Shirley) Steward of Westmont, IL; two sisters, Doretta Abbas of Clarissa, MN and Karen Bringman of Wellman, IA; a nephew whom was raised in Roger’s family, Gary (Sandy) Abbas of Agra, OK; and several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Cecil, Lester and Gene; and two sisters, Eleanor and Mary.
