Obituary for Laurice "Pete" Woiwod

Dateline: Clear Lake, IA. Laurice O. “Pete” Woiwod, 84, 400 Hwy 18 W., Clear Lake, IA, died Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, IA.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday Oct. 2, 2014 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rural Garner, IA with Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, IA and then one hour preceding the service at the church. Memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Pete was born February 23, 1930 in Garner, IA, the son of Otto J. and Lulu (Henschen) Woiwod. He graduated from Ventura High School in 1948. Pete married Wilma (Billie) Fox March 21, 1951 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. They moved to Clear Lake in 1952. Pete worked for the Wayne Feed’s Division of Continental Grain as the mill wright for 40 years, retiring in 1995. He has been a lifelong member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church, caring for both the church and cemetery for over 30 years. He enjoyed tilling gardens and going to auctions.

Pete is survived by two children Beverly Jean (Lynn) Kelck, West Union, IA and Richard Woiwod, Clear Lake, IA; five grandchildren Kellie Kelck, Wyoming, IA, Krista Kelck, West Union, IA, Brandi (Adam) Betts, Mason City, IA, Ryan Woiwod and his special friend Michelle, Waterloo, IA and Abby Woiwod, Fertile, IA; four great grandchildren Jason, Keegan, Jackson and Owen Betts.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, wife Wilma Dec. 7, 2012; two brothers Ronald and Ernest Woiwod and a sister-in-law Elaine Woiwod.
