Jim was the second of three children born to Bonnie (Hebel) and Joseph J. Fritz on Feb. 12, 1969. He grew up on the family farm south of Plymouth. At age 5 the family moved to a farm east of North Iowa Area Community College. Jim graduated from Newman High School in 1987.

His entire life was centered on farming. He loved the outdoors, planting and harvesting, working the land, repairing machinery and keeping busy. He was a perfectionist in everything he did. He was generous to a fault, always ready to help others in need. Jim farmed alongside of his father, Jerry, and brother, Jay, until his death.

On Nov. 11, 2000, Jim married Julie Krull of Scarville at Holy Family Church in Mason City. His married life brought him back to the farm south of Plymouth. A daughter, Josie Jean, was born on Jan. 21, 2003. They divorced in 2007 and Jim moved to Plymouth.

Jim was a loving son, brother and father. He loved his friends and his practical jokes often brought laughs and pleasures to others. He enjoyed stock car racing and going to NASCAR races. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and always recalled the trips to Wisconsin snowmobiling with his father-in-law, Keith and family and friends. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, making several trips to Sturgis, S.D., and other scenic places with his sister, Julie, and brother-in-law Randy, and other motorcycle enthusiasts. Most of all, Jim enjoyed being with Josie.

Those who have the love and privilege of being part of Jim’s life include his daughter, Josie Fritz, Plymouth; parents, Bonnie Fritz and Jerry Fritz, Mason City; sister, Julie (Randy) Olson and their children Kendall, Taylor and Derek; a brother, Jay Fritz, Mason City; and many special friends, Danny Paul Shackleton, John and Becky Cottrel and Dean Mahlstedt.

Grandparents, Clem and Myrl Hebel, Joe and Florence Fritz; godparents Albert and Loretta Stanger preceded Jim in death.

Major Erickson Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, IA 50401; 641-423-0924; http://www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com.
