Mason City - Elmer J. Fritz, 93, of Mason City, died Sunday (November 30, 2008) at Muse-Norris Hospice, Mason City.

Rosary will be 6:30 P.M. Tuesday evening. A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday (December 3, 2008) at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams, Mason City, with Rev. Kenneth B. Gehling, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St, Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 7 P.M. Today at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, where a rosary will be said at 6:30 P.M tonight.

Elmer J. Fritz was born March 2, 1915 at Mason City, the son of Edward and Theresa (Pfieffer) Fritz. He attended school at Holy Family and was a 1934 graduate of Holy Family High School. On November 11, 1940 he was united in marriage to Helen L. Garvey at Manly, Iowa.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church from the time it was located on 2nd Street NW, until the present.

Elmer served in the CCC Camp where he helped build the tower at Pilot Knob State Park, near Forrest City. He later worked at Decker’s Meat Packing and Lehigh Cement Company, Mason City. Elmer served as a firefighter on the Mason City Fire Department from 1939 until retiring, in 1970.

He then joined the Iowa DOT, as a materials inspector, he retired in 1985.

His hobbies included gardening, hunting, and fishing. He especially enjoyed listening to his favorite music - “Polkas”.

Elmer is survived by three daughters, Patti Gribben, Mason City, Kathy (Mick) Haes, Minneapolis, MN., Mary (Jim) Myklestad, Mason City; a son, John Fritz, Mason City; six grandchildren, Jerry Gribben, Mason City, Theresa Blume-Thole, Cottage Grove, MN., Steven Haes, Lakeville, MN., Shelley Rhymers, Richfield, MN., Laurie Tezak, Des Moines, Lisa Johnson, Falls Church, VA.; 10 great –grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Healey, Laguna Hills, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; three sisters, Edna, Marie, and Loretta; four brothers, Emmett, Paul, Wilfred and Joseph; and a son in-law, Pat Gribben.
