MASON CITY -- Cody Michael Fransen, 8, the son of Margaret Willard of Waterloo, and Mike Fransen of Mason City, died Thursday (May 15, 1997) at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E. Officiating will be the Rev. John Alexander and the Rev. Nancy Alexander. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Cody was born on June 6, 1988, at Mason City, the son of Margaret Gardner and Michael Fransen. He attended Harding School, and in October of 1996, moved to Waterloo and attended third grade at the Jewett Elementary School. Cody was very involved in bike riding, using the nature trails at Lime Creek Nature Center, playing Nintendo, and collecting Space Jam items.

Cody is survived by his mother, Margaret Willard of Waterloo; his father, Mike Fransen of Mason City; one sister, Brandy Fransen of Mason City; four brothers, Jason Willard of New York, Eric Willard of Kansas City, Mo., Michael Fransen Jr. and Lucas Fransen, both of Mason City; his paternal grandmother, Beverly and her husband, Loren Murphy, of Mason City; his paternal great-grandfather, Carl Waddell of Mason City; five aunts, Cathy Patton, Linda Westendorf, Diane Hampton, Loree Mitchell, and Lisa Schaer; seven uncles, Mike and Mark Gardner, Jerry, Lowell and Charles Murphy, and James and Joe Fransen; and many cousins.

Cody was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Roger and Beverly Gardner; his paternal grandfather, Don Fransen; and his paternal great-grandmother, Florence Waddell.
