MASON CITY - John D. Foster, 75, of 19123B Spruce Ave., died Thursday (Aug. 3, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Raymond A. Burkle officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, with full military rites by the Mason City Veterans Association.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with a 7 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary.

Memorials may be given to Holy Family Handicap Fund in memory of John D. Foster.

John D. Foster was born April 1, 1920, in Britt, the son of Cleo Foster and Veronica Foster (nee) Victoria. John graduated from Mason City High School in 1938.

During World War II, he served in the United States Marine Corps and was awarded a Purple Heart during combat in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

He was married to Mary Beth Hammond on Dec. 19, 1944, in Klamath Falls, Ore.

After John was discharged he and his wife returned to Mason City where he was engaged in farming and the restaurant business.

John was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, V.F.W., D.A.V. and the Marine Corps League.

He was a loving husband to Mary Beth and a loving father and grandfather to his seven children and 18 grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Beth Foster of Mason City; a son, Tim Foster and wife, Jean Foster of Carson, Wash.; a son, Jim Foster of Eden Prairie, Minn.; a daughter, Ann and husband, Mark Lorenz of Cedar Rapids; a son, Alan Foster of Mason City; a daughter, Mary K. Anderson and husband, Ric Anderson of Mason City; a daughter, Lois King and husband, Terry King of Duluth, Minn.; a daughter, Joyce Foster of Cedar Rapids; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Curran of Mason City, a sister, Victoria Thorley of Berkeley, Calif., a sister, Kathleen Schoneman of Garner; a brother, David Foster of Rio Rico, Ariz.; and a sister, Merry Lou Shaw of Wayne, Pa.; many nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Perle Redden of Britt.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
