November 30, 1996Agnes Gaynell Fitzgerald, 89, of 512 17th St. S.E., Mason City, died Thursday (Nov. 28, 1996) at the I.O.O.F. Home.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. John C. Paisley officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 5 p.m. Sunday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St., N.E., with a scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m.
Agnes Gaynell Fitzgerald was born Aug. 24, 1907, in Latham, Ill., the daughter of John and Nel (Conroy) Gasaway. She married Willis E. Fitzgerald on Jan. 30, 1937.
Agnes graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in Mason City in 1927. During income tax season she worked for various businesses preparing taxes for many years.
She enjoyed traveling and sight-seeing with family and friends. She enjoyed collecting and displaying antiques. Agnes was an avid sports fan, being especially fond of the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins.
Agnes was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Parish and was a member of St. Leo's Circle. She volunteered for Easter Seals, Cancer Society, Red Cross and the Americana and Heritage Care Centers.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary Sue Dodge and friend, Phil Abram, Mason City, Natalie (Nicki) French, Nora Springs, Joan Behr Haywood, Mason City, and Margaret (Meg) Heinrichs and her husband, Maury, Mason City; one son, Willis (Bill) Fitzgerald and his wife, Terri, Cedar Falls; 15 grandchildren, Dawn Campbell, Mason City, Tammy Portis, Nora Springs, Angela Craighton, Forest City, Kerry Johnson, Rockford, Mick and Mark Behr, both of Algona, Laurie Douglas and Kristin Behr, both of Scottsdale, Ariz., Mandy Hawkshead, Knoxville, Tracy Behr, Vail, Colo., Adam and Bradi Heinrichs, both of Mason City, Nicholas Heinrichs, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Nathan and Molly Fitzgerald, Cedar Falls; 22 great- grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Gasaway and his wife, Arlyne, Mason City, and John Gasaway, Concorde, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Barbara Gasaway, Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willis, on Dec. 30, 1965; two brothers, Charles and William Gasaway; and two sons-in-law, Raymond French and Robert Haywood.
