CLEAR LAKE -- Robert Joseph Dankbar, 83, of Clear Lake, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1001 Ninth Ave. S., Clear Lake, with the Rev. John Gossman officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery with military honors provided by the Clear Lake VFW Post 4868.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. A scriptural wake service will begin at 5 p.m. and a rosary will be said by the Knights of Columbus Council 4868.

Robert was born Dec. 15, 1932, the son of Joseph and Isabell (Knoll) Dankbar in Garner. He married Joan Smith on June 7, 1958, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City.

A graduate of Clear Lake High School, Robert joined the United States Air Force in 1952. After serving four years he returned home and began working for H&H Distribution as a truck driver. He later began working for Nelson Petroleum, where he remained for 34 years.

Robert was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Clear Lake, Knights of Columbus Council 7898, and was very active at the Senior Citizens Center. He had an impressive tractor collection which included a fully restored 1938 International F20. He enjoyed golfing with friends, hunting in his younger years, going on bus trips, and going to dinner with friends.

Robert is survived by his wife, Joan Dankbar of Clear Lake; two sisters, Donna Prescott of Albert Lea, MN and Ruth Colbert of Murfreesboro, TN; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Dankbar.
