MASON CITY -- Alfred B.C."Al" Dann, 78, of 1116 Maple Drive, died Thursday (Nov. 28, 1996) at his daughter's home in Melbourne, Fla.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.

Alfred B.C. "Al" Dann, 78, of 1116 Maple Drive, died Thursday (Nov. 28, 1996) at his daughter's home in Melbourne, Fla.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., with the Rev. Merlin Ackerson and the Rev. Sharon Betsworth officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

There will be no visitation as the body was cremated. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the Al Dann Memorial Fund.

Alfred B.C. "Al" Dann was born Aug. 25, 1918, in Dallas Center, son of Alva and Cora (Pearson) Dann. He was raised on a farm near Ankeny, graduating from Ankeny High School in 1935. He graduated from Business College, Des Moines, in 1940.

He served in the United States Army for four and one-half years during World War II landing in France three days after D-Day in 1941 and discharged on Dec. 1, 1945. He was in the Battle of the Bulge. He served in France, Belgium and Germany with the 397th anti-aircraft Battalion, First Army.

He was married to Helen Brecht on Dec. 7, 1945, in Danville, and made their home in Des Moines, moving to Mason City in 1952.

He worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railway for 15 years in Boone, Des Moines and Mason City. He was employed by Midland Cooperatives for 25 years in Mason City and Minneapolis, retiring in 1980. After his retirement, he worked at Carleton Stewart Music Store for several years.

His hobbies were collecting old road maps, collecting articles and stories with several videos of Route 66 and the Lincoln Highway. Since 1937, he had scrap books for each year showing pictures of automobiles which includes the DeLorean, Hupmobile, etc., and many of the early cars which are no longer in existence.

He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church, member and soloist of the Jubilee Bell Choir of the church for 15 years, charter member of Mended Hearts, Inc. Chapter #222, charter member of the River City Barbershop Chorus, and member of the V.F.W. Post #733.

His church and his home were of the utmost importance to him. He was a devoted and loving husband and father.

Survivors include his daughters, Corinne Oleson and her husband, Dean, of Melbourne, Fla.; Claudia Cooper and her husband, Dennis, of Mason City, and Carie Dann of Greeley, Colo.; grandchildren, Christy Oleson, of Melbourne, Fla., and Wesley and William Cooper, of Mason City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He will join those who have preceded him in death, his parents; his wife, Helen, who passed away on Dec. 16, 1995; three brothers, Harry who died in infancy, Willard and Ralph; and three sisters, Hannah Woods, Helen Howard and Minnie Zelle.
