MASON CITY -- Maryiea C. Curtis, 81, of the Manly Care Center, died Monday (Dec. 23, 1996) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., with the Rev. Herbert Shafer of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. today until time of services.

Maryiea was born on Jan. 13, 1915, the daughter of Alfred and Grace (Abbas) Johnson in Buffalo Center.

Maryiea Johnson was united in marriage to James C. Curtis on June 8, 1933, in Bancroft, Iowa. In 1948, the couple moved to the Mason City area.

She enjoyed planting a garden in the spring and working with it all summer long. During the evenings, she liked to read various kinds of books.

She was a member of the Ladies Kitchen.

Maryiea is survived by six children, James and his wife Sue of Plymouth, Ray and his wife Joice of Plymouth, Robert of Mason City, Joseph of Mount Pleasant, Timothy of Kansas City, Kan., and Arthur of Columbia, Mo.; four sisters, Dorothy Johnson, Alvera Phoenix, Josophine Shelby, and Kathleen Savonich; two brothers, Marvin Johnson and Kenneth Johnson; and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James, one sister and two brothers.
