MASON CITY -- Agnes Compton, 102, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Sunday (Aug. 20, 1995) at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church, 125 East State St., with the Rev. Ron Stein officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

There is no visitation. The casket will be closed. Memorials may be given to the Agnes Compton Memorial Fund at First Baptist Church. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 209 Second St. N.E., is in charge of arrangements.

Agnes Compton was born Dec. 27, 1892, in McPherson, Kan., a daughter of Andrew Judd Compton and Edith A. Compton (nee) Conway.

She was a bookkeeper and stenographer until her retirement. Her last employer was Zanios Foods.

She was a teacher and superintendent of the Kindergarten Department of the Sunday school over 70 years at First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Gildner Ladies Circle, and a charter member of Circle 5, which was organized in 1921. She had been an active worker and leader in the Baptist Young People's Union and did Christian Americanization work through the church. She was a regular visitor at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home for several years. Agnes also taught English to some of the Greek immigrants after work.

Survivors include one sister, Laura Tobsing and husband, Emil Tobsing, of Mason City; several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and great-grandnieces and nephews.
