November 15, 1995CLEAR LAKE -- Robert James Comer, 77, of 705 12th Ave. N., Clear Lake, died Saturday (Nov. 11, 1995) at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the WardVan Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. The body was cremated and inurnment will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home one-half hour before Thursday's services to greet friends. They suggest memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.
Robert was born March 31, 1918 in Farley, Iowa, the son of George Edward and Olive M. (Lamb) Comer. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1935. He also graduated from Bayless Business College in Dubuque, Iowa.
He served as a sergeant in the United States Air Force during World War II. He devoted three and one-half years of his life to military service.
On Nov. 9, 1947, he was united in marriage to Maybelle A. (Sammie) Wilson in Spring Grove, Minn.
He was employed by National Cash Register (NCR) as a service manager in Dubuque, Iowa for 20 years. He then transferred to Duluth, Minn. for two years; Davenport, Iowa for one year; and Cedar Rapids, Iowa two years. He began his own business, Comer Cash Registers in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He moved to Clear Lake in 1972 and was employed as an NCR cash register salesman in Mason City from 1972 until his retirement in 1983. He owned and operated Comer Cash Register until 1995.
His hobbies included gardening.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.
While living in Dubuque, he was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and a former member of that church council. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Martin Luther Home in Dubuque.
He is survived by his wife, Maybelle (Sammie) Comer, of Clear Lake; a daughter, Roberta Ann (Bobbi) Bruns, of Clear Lake; a sister, Ruth McQuistan of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Robyn Rae Davidson and her husband, David, of Clear Lake, and Paul Robert Bruns of Clear Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kent Wilson Comer; and three brothers, Dale Comer, Edward Comer, and Glen Comer.
