November 04, 1996BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- Sheridan W. "Jerry" Chambers, 53, of 13101 14th Ave. South, died Thursday (Oct. 31, 1996) in rural Rice County, Minn.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be a flag folding ceremony at the cemetery by the Mason City Memorial Association.
Visitation will be held until noon today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
The family suggests memorials to the Sheridan W. "Jerry" Chambers Memorial Fund.
Sheridan W. "Jerry" Chambers was born [December 11, 1942] the second oldest of 11 children, the son of Montcalm A. and Faye M. (Smith) Chambers in Imperial, Neb. Sheridan was raised on a farm one mile southwest of Champion, Neb. He attended elementary school in Champion and he graduated in 1960 from Chase County High School in Imperial, Neb.
Following high school, Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served five years as a helicopter mechanic, and also served as a member of the helicopter rescue team. Jerry worked 20 years with United Airlines at the San Francisco International Airport as an airline mechanic. He also worked for five years for Sun Country Airlines in Minneapolis, Minn. as an aircraft mechanic and supervisor.
He married Barbara Wolkenhauer on Nov. 13, 1971 in Reno, Nev.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Chambers, of Burnsville, Minn.; one son, Dale Berninghausen and his wife, Melody, of San Jose, Calif.; one daughter, Cheryl Bushman and her husband, Mark, of San Jose, Calif.; four grandchildren, Melissa, Kimberly, Christopher and Shauna; his father, Monte Chambers of Champion, Neb.; six sisters, Winona Kaye, Sandra Brunkhurst, Candi Schilke, Jane Mullanix, Monta Rae Graves and Kathi Samuelson; three brothers, Douglas Chambers, Timothy Chambers, and Mitchell Chambers; his mother-in-law, Geneva Wolkenhauer of Mason City; sisters-in-law, Marian Woods of Denver, Colo., and Susan Gardner and her husband, Raymond, of LaCrosse, Wis.; and a brother-in-law, Stephen Wolkenhauer and his wife, Tomoko, of Buffalo Grove, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Faye; one sister, Brenda Chambers; and one son, Randy Berninghausen.
