MASON CITY -- Helen L. Douglas Carr, formerly of Mason City, died Thursday (July 25, 2002) at the Palos East Manor Care in Palos Heights, Ill.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at Calvary Alliance Church, 408 N. Delaware Ave., with the Rev. David Biddle officiating. Interment will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Plymouth.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Helen L. Douglas Carr Memorial Fund.

Helen L. Douglas Carr was born Sept. 16, 1908, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Gottfried J. and Martha (Nagel) Seiffert. The family later moved to Remer, Minn., when she attended school. She moved to Duluth following school where she worked before attending college. She moved to St. Paul to attend St. Paul Bible College for three years.

She was united in marriage to Paul R. Douglas on June 25, 1935, in Remer. They moved to Mason City later that year where they made their home. She was a devoted wife and mother, who stayed home with their children and helped Paul on the farm. Paul died in 1970.

Helen was united in marriage to Virgil Carr Sr. on Sept. 28, 1977, in Mason City. They were married for 13 years before his death in 1990.

She continued to live in Mason City until moving to Illinois in 1999 to be closer to her family.

She was an active member of Calvary Alliance Church. She enjoyed reading the Bible and crocheting. She found the greatest joy from the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, James Douglas and wife, Jane, of Lansdale, Pa., Margaret Zelhart and husband, Don, of Plainfield, Ill., and Philip Douglas, of Crystal Lake, Ill.; grandchildren, Anita Douglas, Kristina Howard and husband, Mike, Stephanie Catalano and husband, Nick, Wei-guo Chen-Douglas, Debra Jones and husband, Rodger, Catherine LeCuyer and husband, Michael, David Zelhart and wife, Chris, Rebecca Calisti and husband, Gary, Christine Douglas, Eric Douglas and Tracy Regnen and husband, Mark; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Gertrude Douglas of Billings, Mont., Louise Larson and husband, Ray, of Brownsville, Texas, and Margaret Anderson, of Bothell, Wash.; and one brother, Ernest Seiffert and wife, Lorraine, of Litchfield, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, five brothers and two sisters.
