ROCKWELL -- Raymond A. Campbell, 76, of 213 Mulberry St., Rockwell, died Monday (Aug. 28, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Funeral services and a celebration of Raymond's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church with the Rev. Joseph A. Miller officiating. Interment will be in the Rockwell Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today at Fullerton Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St., Rockwell, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Raymond A. Campbell memorial fund.

Raymond was born on April 19, 1919, at Rockwell, the son of Raymond Archie Campbell and Lulu Yarrow Campbell. He graduated from Rockwell High School.

He served his country in the United States Army from 1941 until being honorably discharged in 1946. He served as a first sergeant in the field artillery in the European Theatre, during which time he earned the Bronze Star. He served in Belgium, France and Germany.

After returning to Rockwell, he was united in marriage to Marian V. Petersen on June 15, 1947, to which union four children were born.

He was a rural mail carrier for 28 years, retiring in 1981.

Ray was very active in the community and served for 30 years on the Rockwell Volunteer Fire Department, 18 years on the summer recreation board, served as the past president of both the Lion's Club and the St. Peter church board and was also a commander of the American Legion.

Ray was one of the members who was instrumental in creating the avenue of the flags on Rockwell's main street.

He had a passion for enjoying his grandchildren, golfing and outfishing his children. He was also an avid reader.

Along with his wife, Marian, of 48 years, he is survived by his daughter, Linda, and her husband, Gene Schaefer of Williamsburg; three sons, Douglas and his wife, Maureen Campbell of Fort Wayne, Ind., Brian and his wife, Christie Campbell of Cedar Falls, and David and his wife, Jill Campbell of Pleasant Hill; one sister, Mrs. Raymond (Myrtle) Smith of Rockwell; and 11 grandchildren which include Brad and Becca Schaefer; Katie, Erin, Meghan, Joseph, Jami, Evan, Jacob, Abby and Sam Campbell.

Raymond has joined those who preceded him, his parents; two brothers, Velman and Alvin; and one sister, Luella Mae Dye.
