Catherine was born April 20, 1950, in Mason City. The daughter of Babe and Delphine (Shovein) Suter, she graduated from Newman High School and then went on to pursue her interior design degree from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. She owned and operated Cook's Corner, a gourmet cooking store in Clear Lake. During this time she met and married Dr. Harry Alcorn. They shared a love of travel — especially to La Jolla and the Florida Keys. After his death in 1995 she returned to the Clear Lake retail community working for Wilcox Furniture for nearly 20 years.

Catherine enjoyed playing cards — especially with her family. She was a regular season ticket holder for the NIACC Leadership and Performing Arts Series — attending with her special friends. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed watching NIACC women's basketball. She especially enjoyed watching her nieces and nephews participate in their various activities.

Catherine was in her element hosting family gatherings — whether it was the 4th of July at her house in Clear Lake or Thanksgiving and Christmas at her house in Mason City. Her last family adventure was arranging for the entire family to spend a week over this past Christmas in Vero Beach, Florida, making lasting memories.

Catherine will be greatly missed by her sister Anne Ciska of Mason City, brother James (Janet) Suter of Rochester, Minnesota, sister Mary (John) Oertel of Mason City, brother Kevin Suter, of Las Cruces, New Mexico; nephew Marc Ciska, niece Julia (Chris) Deets, Liz Ciska, Teresa Oertel-Court (Adam), Allyson Ciska, Delphine Suter, Joseph Suter, James Suter, Adam Suter, Peter Suter, Sean Suter, John Suter and many great-nieces and nephews and special cousin Julia Oulman. Also left to cherish her memory are lifelong friends Father Tim Lannon, Mary Jo Profetta and Maggie Simonson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, niece Sophia Suter, niece Katie Oertel.
