August 24, 2016MASON CITY — James “Jim” Alvin Harold Brevig, 48, of Mason City, Iowa, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. with a one hour prior visitation on Saturday, Aug. 27, at Fullerton Funeral Home. Officiating will be Glenn Marten.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the VFW in Mason City following the service.
In expression of sympathy, memorials may be directed to the family.

August 25, 2016James "Jim" Alvin Harold Brevig, 48, of Mason City, IA died Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IA.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 pm with a one hour prior visitation on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Fullerton Funeral Home. Officiating will be Glenn Marten.
Jim was born on August 31, 1967 in St. Cloud, MN to James and Kathleen (Dornfeld) Brevig. He went to high school in Forrest Lake, Minnesota. He went to University of Minnesota in Morris. Following this he enlisted in The United States Navy. He served as a electronic and radio technician on a frigate for 5 years. He then was honorably discharged. During the time he was in the service, he met and married Lisa Jensen. To this union two wonderful sons joined them. He continued to work within his field of study until, knee injury sustained in service, made him unable to continue to work.
On September 30, 2013 Jim was united in marriage to Melissa "Lisa" Tepner. The couple resided together in Mason City. Jim was a wonderful father to his two sons and also step-son. He enjoyed taking his boys out to the gun range to shoot. Jim also liked traveling with Lisa and family. He was a very kind and giving person. Jim was a non-judgmental person and often times a mentor to many friends, always willing to help anyone in need. He liked making others laugh with his incredible sense of humor. Jim will be remembered as a "sweet man".
Jim's life in Mason City was very active. Not only was he an excellent role model for his own sons, but eagerly step in to being a wonderful step dad to Ryan Tepner. His biggest accomplishment was positively impacting the children's life. Seeing his older sons become strong independent men will continue to be his legacy.
He was on the Asbury Home Owner's Board, and he served on the architectural committee. Always looking to make better changes in the community in which he lived. He was a member of the VFW throughout his adult life. He was an active member of the Republican Party. He served as a delegate for local, districted and state levels. In this he strived to make changes to help veterans and their families.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Lisa Tepner-Brevig of Mason City; sons, Erik Brevig of Bremerton, WA and Peder Brevig of Mason City; step-son, Ryan Tepner; mother, Kathleen Brevig of Hugo, MN; sister, Tina (Todd) Rappe (children Isaac and Evi)of St. Paul, MN; brother-in-law, Nick Amosson and girlfriend Cindi Sissel of Mason City, niece Lacey Schmidt of Frederika, IA, and brother in law Mike wife, Bernadine Amosson of Soldier, IA; mother-in-law, Betty Amosson of Mason City, IA; godparents, Chuck and Judy Clausen of Oakdale, MN; uncle, Dennis Nelson; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Brevig; maternal and paternal grandparents; and aunt, Sharon Nelson.
