SEATTLE, Wash. — Derek Bowers, 48, passed away July 10, 2007 in Seattle after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born on Jan. 16, 1959, in Iowa City to William and Mildred (Schmidt) Bowers. His parents are originally from the Mason City and Nora Springs areas.

Derek grew up in Peoria, Ill., where he graduated from Limestone Community High School and Bradley University. He also attended Illinois State University, where he earned a master of business administration degree. At the time of his death, he was general manager of Pro Comm Protection and Communications Inc. of Seattle.

Surviving Derek is his wife, Tracy, of Mill Creek, Wash.; a stepson and two stepdaughters; his parents, of Hanna City, Ill.; and brothers, David (Patricia) of Haddonfield, N.J.; Steven (Anna), of Brighton, Mich.; and James (Laurie) of Indianola. Also surviving are four nieces, two nephews, two grandnephews and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, C. Eugene and Lucille Schmidt, of Nora Springs; Loren and Genevieve (Reynolds) Bowers, of Mason City; and an uncle, Lloyd Bowers, of Colorado Springs.
