Elderly Thornton Woman Is Dead

Thornton -- Mrs. Hester Blewett, 98, died late Tuesday afternoon [February 10, 1949] at her home here. She died of complications after suffering a broken hip.

She is survived by 3 children: Mrs. Alfred [Laura Elizabeth] Ingebretson, of Thornton; Harold Blewett, of Meservey; and, Harvey Blewett, of Mason City. She also is survived by 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Her husband Thomas, died [July 18, 1936].

Mrs. Blewett, an Iowa resident for 37 years, was a member of the M. E. church in Thornton.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

BLEWETT RITES SET

Thornton -- Funeral services for Mrs. Hester Blewett, 98, will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alfred Ingebretson, and at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church, the Rev. Harvey Walker, pastor, officiating. She died Tuesday afternoon.

Mrs. Thomas Blewett

Elizaabeth, Ill., March 1. -- Elizabeth relatives of Mrs. Hester Blewett, widow of Thomas Blewett and a former resident of this community, who died Tuesday at her home in Thornton, Ia., at the age of 98 years. Funeral services were held Saturday at Thornton and burial was made in that place [Pleasant View Cemetery].

According to the information received here, Mrs. Blewett had fallen and broken her hip recently, her death resulting from the injuries sustained in that fall and the complications of old age.

Hester Combellick was born in Jo Daviess county [January 5] 1851 and was united in marrage to Thomas Blewett of Elizabeth who preceded her in death in 1937 (sic, 1936 per the gravestone). She leaves three children: Mrs. Alfred Ingebretson of Thornton; Harold of Merservey; and Harvey of Mason City. There are also 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Blewett had made her home in Iowa for the past 37 years. She was a member of the Methodist church in Thornton.

Her husband was a brother of the late John Blewett of Elizabeth and she leaves in Elizabeth one nephew, Benjamin Blewett, and two nieces, Mrs. Hanna L. Wilcox and Mrs. J. W. Howarth.

Transcriber's Note: Hester was the daughter of John and Caroline (Bawden) Combellick. She married Thomas Blewett on April 4, 1877.
