MASON CITY — V. Esther Barrick, 87, of Mason City died Friday (June 17, 2005) at Good Shepherd Health Center.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., with the Rev. Jo Frahm Watkins officiating. A private interment service will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church.

Esther was born April 26, 1918, in Terre Haute, Ind., the daughter of Harry S. and Ethel N. (Rood) Call. She attended school in Terre Haute and graduated from Garfield High School. She attended Baptist Missionary Training School for Christian Education.

She was united in marriage to Fred W. Barrick on April 26, 1947, in St. Louis, Mo. Esther and Fred moved to Spencer, Iowa, in 1947, where they owned and operated Barrick Jewelry until 1968. In 1968, they came to Mason City when Fred became the lay minister for First United Methodist Church.

Esther was an active member of First United Methodist Church and Ruth Circle. She was also actively involved in PEO Chapter KX, HEO Club, Veleda Club, Friday Morning Bible Study, the Prayer Chain and Mended Hearts.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Kloberdanz and husband, Ron, of Mason City; son, Dennis Barrick, and wife, Carol, of Nevada, Iowa; and son, the Rev. Robert Barrick and wife, Susan, of Winterset, Iowa. Esther is also survived by her eight grandchildren: Amanda Mack and husband, Mike, of Colo, Iowa, Beth Barrick of Ames, Christopher Kloberdanz of Urbandale, Elizabeth Kloberdanz of Mason City, and Scott, Lisa, Matthew and Alexa Barrick, all of Winterset.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; one sister; one brother; and one half-brother.
