Tuesday, December 12, 2000CLEAR LAKE - Laura M. Badker, 97, died Sunday night (Dec. 10, 2000) at the Oakwood Care Center, Highway 18 W. in Clear Lake.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Interment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or the United Methodist Women in Clear Lake.
Laura was born Oct. 9, 1903, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Harry and Mary (Juhl) Welker. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1922.
Laura married Roy W. Badker on July 5, 1924, in rural Clear Lake where they lived until moving into town in 1968.
She was active in the Lakeside Church, and then joined the Clear Lake United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Friendship Club in Clear Lake. While living on the farm she raised chickens and gardened.
Laura is survived by her son, Wayne "Bud" Badker and his wife, LaVohn, of Clear Lake; two grandsons, Dennis Badker and his wife, Karen, of Klemme, and John Risse and his wife, Diana, of Ames; four great-grandchildren, Scott and Curt Badker, of Clear Lake, and Heather and Ryan Risse, of Ames.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy (Nov. 4, 1976); a daughter, Theone Risse; son-in-law, Arthur Risse; and one brother, Howard Welker.
