Owen Miller Babbe, 79, of 210 N. Taft Ave. (P.O. Box 214), died Tuesday (June 25, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

There will be no funeral services. The body was cremated in accordance with his wishes. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., is in charge of arrangements.

Owen was born Dec. 19, 1916, in Council Bluffs, son of Albert and Ruey (Miller) Babbe. He graduated from Council Bluffs High School and from the University of Iowa with a degree in music.

He was a professional announcer in Hollywood, Calif., for 10 years.

He came back to Fort Dodge in 1950 to run Jones Piano House, and open a branch store in Mason City in 1962. He owned and operated the piano stores until his retirement in 1984.

He enjoyed reading and traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Babbe of Mason City; one daughter, Christina Babbe of Seattle, Wash.; one son, Owen Babbe Jr. of Sekin, Wash.; one sister, Maxine Morley of British Columbia, Canada; and two brothers, James Babbe of Bisbee, Ariz., and Alan Babbe of Van Nuys, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; a daughter, Susan; an infant daughter; and his parents.
