J. Anderson funeral set for Friday

John W. Anderson, 50, conductor on the Milwaukee Road, died suddenly Tuesday evening at his home, 45 25th SW. He had been employed by the railroad since 1947.

Mr. Anderson was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Surviving are his wife, Opal C., and son, Jerry, at home.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The Major-Erickson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

J. Anderson dies at 50

The funeral for John W. Anderson, 50, brakeman on the Milwaukee Road who died Tuesday evening at his home, 45 25th SW, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Lavern R. Hanson will officiate.

John Woodrow Anderson was born Jan. 2, 1914, in Iowa City, son of William R. and Jennie (Dahl) Anderson. The family moved to Spencer, where he attended school.

In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the European Theater as a staff sergeant in the 2nd Armored Division, taking part in the Normandy invasion. After his discharge, he returned to Iowa and settled in Mason City, where he went to work for the Milwaukee Road.

He was married to Opal C. Reinsmoen Sept. 4, 1948, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Surviving are his wife, a son, Jerry Dean Anderson, 14, at home, and his father, William R. Anderson, Dickens. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jennie Anderson, in 1953.

Mr. Anderson was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City and of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.

Pallbearers selected are Edward S. Heivilin, Gail Lame, Henry Flatness, O. S. Gilmore, Garier Thoma and R. Jay Ennis. Mrs. Lamb and Mrs. Ennis will be in charge of flowers.

Robert O. Albrecht will be soloist, Mrs. R. E. Patton, organist. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Graveside rites will be conducted by the Mason City Memorial Association, Carson Petersen presiding.

The family prefers that any memorials be given to the organ fund of Trinity Lutheran Church. The Major-Erickson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
