Arthur H. Butcher, 92, of Mason City, died Wednesday (Jan. 27, 2010) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today, Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Steve Hansen, of Wesley United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at Major Erickson Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the Arthur Butcher Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Arthur was born on Oct. 26, 1917, in rural Mason City, the son of George Sr. and Mary Helen (Hansford) Butcher. Arthur attended country school in rural Cerro Gordo County.

Over the years, Arthur lived in Sheffield, Thornton, and Mason City. He was a farmer and also worked for Brakke Implement for ten and a half years. After retirement, he enjoyed helping his nephews during harvest. Arthur also enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, taking bus trips, cooking, baking, and playing board games such as Dominos, Yahtzee, and 1,000. Arthur raised his nephew Floyd, and was considered to be a grandfather to Floyd's children. Arthur also took care of his father.

Arthur was a former member of the Moose Lodge.

Arthur is survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great -nieces and nephews, and great-great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, Ada Deardeuff, Mildred Deardeuff, Margaret Snyder, Alice Tietjens and Florence Butcher; four brothers, Roy, Thomas, Richard and George Jr. Butcher. He was also preceded in death by three nephews: Floyd Butcher, and Don and Clarence Deardeuff; three nieces: Mary Hiebenthal, Marlys Dohndt and Dorothy Martin.
