November 20, 2008Behrend Wilfred "Ben" Buss was born June 22, 1914, in Bingham Township, son of Egbert J. and Gertrude (Pannkuk) Buss. He grew up on a farm north and east Titonka graduating from Titonka High School in 1932. In earlier years he enjoyed sports especially playing baseball. Following school he farmed with his family retiring just a few years ago.
Ben was united in marriage to Doris LaGasse on February 21, 1970 in Mason City. He was an avid golfer taking up the sport at the age of 62 and getting a hole-in-one at the age of 87. Ben was a lifelong and active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Titonka. Ben had a special love of the land and always considered farming as his way of life.
Behrend W. Buss died Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the Titonka Care Center, at the age of 94.
He is survived by his wife Doris Buss of Titonka; nine nieces and nephews, Gertrude Affayroux and her husband Jerry of Tampa, FL, Joan Podles, Joe Buss Jr. and his wife Linda, James Buss and his wife Karen, and David Buss all of Baltimore, MD, Leon Buss and his wife Marylou of Dundas, MN, Mavis Hess of Forest City, Dale Buss of St. Peter, MN, and Russell Buss and his wife Karen of Woden. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Johann "Joe" Buss and Melvin Buss; a nephew, Robert Buss; and a brother-in-law, Raymond LaGasse.
