February 26, 1930 ~ September 18, 1995

Roscoe "Rocky" Burgess Jr., 65, of 210 N. Madison Ave., died Monday (Sept. 18, 1995) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Doris Sherer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with a flag folding ceremony conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Friday until time of services at the funeral chapel.

Roscoe was born Feb. 26, 1930, in Mason City, son of Roscoe and Elsie Burgess.

He married Margaret Fisher on Oct. 14, 1950, in Mason City.

Roscoe served in the United States Navy. He then was employed by R & R Construction, Central States Auto Auction, the Sugar Beet plant and as a bus driver for Headstart.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Burgess of Mason City; two sons, Steven Burgess and his wife, Ann, of Des Moines, and James Burgess of Mason City; four daughters, Jackie Burgess, RoxAnn Burgess, Julia Burgess (Jimmie Lee), and Cindy Cunningham and her husband, Randy, all of Mason City; and one foster son, Ronald Willis and his wife, Elizabeth, of Mason City; three brothers, Lorenzo Burgess of Marshalltown, Jack and his wife, Deloris Burgess, and Jerry Burgess, all of Mason City; three sisters, Lola Boomgarden and her husband, Martin; Betty Steece and her husband, Spence of Mason City and JoAnn Anderson and her husband, Dan, of Clear Lake; nine grandchildren, Laura Woodard of Des Moines, Steven "Butch" Matthess of Des Moines, Michelle Burgess (Allen) of Mason City, Keith Burgess and his fiancee, LeAnn of Des Moines, Johnny Cunningham, Dalaina Burgess, LaTeya Burgess, Jimmie "Levi" Burgess, and Patricia Godfrey, all of Mason City; five great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Dakota "Cody," Damon, Jessmyn, and Allen Jr. "Buba"; and many other nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Burgess and Dale Burgess, two sisters, Junella Eden and Iva Pauline Burgess; and one daughter, Carol Ann Burgess.
