April 17, 2013Mason City - Jack L. Burgess, 78, of Swaledale, formerly of Mason City, died Monday (April 15, 2013) at the I.O.O.F. Home, Mason City.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday (April 19, 2013) at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street NE, Mason City with Major Vickie Cole from the Salvation Army officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Thursday (18 April, 2013)at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street NE, Mason City.
Graveside services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, where full military honors will be conducted by members of the Mason City Veterans.
Jack was born on November 25, 1934, in Mason City, the son of Roscoe and Elise(Burgess) Burgess Sr. He was united in marriage to Deloris Ann Kinney August 19, 1956. Jack graduated from Mason City High School and continued his education receiving a degree in administration. Jack served in the United State Marine Corps, and is a Korean War Veteran. Following his military service, he went on to be a X-Ray Chief Technician in 1964. In August 1967 he became the administrator of the local municipal hospital in Guttenberg, MN, and then became the Superintendent of the I.O.O.F. Home in October of 1976.
In his early years he owned a T.V. and repair shop in Rockwell. Jack enjoyed listening to, and collecting old radio shows, especially his favorite Amos & Andy, playing cards, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. Jack moved around, and owned and operated several homes where he took care of the elderly, settling down in Swaledale.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Deloris Burgess, many nieces and nephews, brother-in-laws, LeRoy Kinney, and Wayne Brown; Sister-in-law Linda Bell; a very special young man Bob Clute, and Bob's children, Brianna and Bob Jr., as well Geno, a dear friend to the end. Jack was very fond of his family, and liked to say he loved his nieces to pieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roscoe and Elise Burgess; five brothers, Lorenzo, Robert, Dale, Roscoe Jr., and Jerry; five sisters, Iva Pauline, Lola, Junenella (June), Betty, and JoAnn; brother-in-law Paul Brown, sister-in-laws Margaret Kinney, and Margaret Burgess as well as many nieces and nephews.
