CLEAR LAKE - John Henry Buhr, 80, of 512 S. 12th St., Clear Lake, died Saturday (Nov. 6, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kermit Roisen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with military honors by the Clear Lake VFW.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Ward Van-Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. The family suggests memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa.

John Buhr was born June 1, 1919, at Story Hospital in Mason City, the son of August and Alma (Kruse) Buhr. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1938 and went on to attend Mason City Junior College. After receiving his education, he was employed by Mason City Millwork.

On June 2, 1940, he was united in marriage to Ione Storck in Mason City. John served in the United States Navy during World War II. Following the service, he moved to Clear Lake and worked at Clear Lake Millwork and later Beck-Fisher Construction. He retired from Winnebago Construction in May 1984. John's craftsmanship was outstanding and he was recognized as an excellent cabinetmaker. He learned woodworking as a youngster working with his father and practiced the trade his entire life. For several years he operated a small business known as Buhr's Aquarium from his home.

On Nov. 24, 1978, he married Roberta Edmundson. His hobbies included golfing and he was an avid sports fan. He cherished his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Oorlog, Burnsville, Minn., and Linda Jacobs and her husband, John, Clinton; step-children, Robert Edmundson and his wife, Shelly, Arapahoe, Neb., Roy Edmundson and his wife, Ellen, Culbertson, Neb., and Edgar Edmundson and his wife, Beth, Charles City; three sisters, Arlene Berrie and her husband, Edwin, Mason City, Lois Turkal and her husband, Frank, Lancaster, Calif., and Dorothy Johnson and her husband, Stan, Mason City; 10 grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ione, March 17, 1975; his wife, Roberta, May 11, 1999; a brother, Roger Buhr, Sr.; and two sisters, Laverna Paulsen and Marion, who died in infancy.
