MASON CITY — John R. Brownell, 58, salesman for the Cook Paint & Varnish Co died Saturday at a hospital in Rochester, MN. He had lived and operated a grocery store in Mason City for 22 years.

Mr. Brownell was born at Allen, NE. He came to Mason City from Minburn, Iowa and had been employed with the paint company about 1 year.

John married Inez Jensen June 8, 1931 in the Little Brown Church at Nashua. He served in WWI.

Surviving are his wife, Inez; two daughters Vesta and Karen; and two sisters, Mrs. C.K. Cullings and Mrs. C.C. Billington.
