MASON CITY — Robert L. "Bob" Brown, 77, of 1531 Sixth Place S.E. died Monday (Nov. 30, 2004) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. Michael Podhajsky officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with a scriptural wake service at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the Robert L. "Bob" Brown Memorial Fund, PO Box 792, Mason City, Iowa 50402-0792.

Bob was born Sept. 20, 1927, in San Francisco, Calif., the son of Walter and Marie (Busse) Brown. He was raised in Tucson, Ariz., and moved to Mason City in 1967. Bob took an announcing position with KGLO Radio and TV. He remained with KGLO radio until his retirement in 1998. Bob was an avid golfer and following his retirement a tree was planted on the 4th hole at Highland Park Golf Course in his honor by River City Trees.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and active in the community as a little league coach and Cub Scout leader. He also served as master of ceremonies at many local events.

Bob was given numerous awards through the years from the American Heart Association, United Way, North Iowa Mental Health Association, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of North Iowa and most recently the North Iowa Band Festival Klempnauer Award. Bob always had a story to tell and his quick wit and smiling face will be missed by many.

Bob is survived by his friend and former wife, Linda Huegli of Tucson, Ariz.; children, Steve Brown and wife, Kathy, of Clear Lake, Dan Brown and fiancée, Marcia Hoffbauer, of Iowa City, Michael Brown of Mason City, Donna Brown of Mason City and Christopher Brown of Mason City; grandchildren, Tony Brown and wife, Bridget, Tyler, Kala, Kirsten and Derek.

Bob's parents preceded him in death.
