MASON CITY -- Loretta C. Brown, 84, formerly of 1618 N. Carolina, died Saturday (Oct. 23, 1999) at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Mason City.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Nielsen, pastor at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Fullerson Patyterson James Funeral Chapel, 123 Second St. SE, Mason City.

Loretta was born on Oct. 19, 1915, at Badger, Iowa, in Webster County. She was the daughter of Clarence and Laura Kendall Thompson. She attended school in Badger and was baptized and confirmed at the Badger Lutheran Church.

She was employed as a waitress and cleaning person for the Revira Hotel in Onawa. On March 28, 1948, she was united in marriage to Clifford C. Brown in Sioux City. In 1957 they moved to Mason City.

She enjoyed vegetable gardening and was especially adept at her flowers. If there was a stray child in the North Carolina Avenue area they could usually be found at her kitchen table eating cookies. She also enjoyed reading in her spare time. She attended Trinity Lutheran Church.

Loretta is survived by her son, Wesley Lee and his wife, Nancy Collette, Mason City; one daughter, Shirley Jean Collette-Hollis, and her husband, Henry Hollis, Farmingham, Mass.' two stepsons, Horace James Brown, Aurora, Colo., and Donald Brown, Lake Mary, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Mabel M. Teddlie, Westman Row, La.; one brother, Jessie O. Thompson, Kent, Wash.; 154 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford, in June 1986; two sisters, Irma and Mildred; two brothers, Glen and Vearl; one stepson, Charles; and one grandson, Stephen Szretter.
