CLEAR LAKE, IA — Shirley Lee Brattrud, 74, of 710 N. 6th St., Clear Lake, Iowa died Saturday May 23, 2009 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday May 28, 2009 at the Galilean Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, Iowa with Rev. Jeff Ungs officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00-7:00p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel and then one hour before the service on Thursday at the church. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.

Family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa or American Cancer Society.

Shirley was born Sept. 3, 1934 in Stanton, Iowa the daughter of Harry and Gertrude (Vanderholm) Klang. She moved with her folks at an early age and attended school in Mason City and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1951.

Shirley married Gaylord Brattrud Nov. 11, 1951 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa.

She worked at Peterson’s Café, Clear Lake and later at the Mason City Airport Restaurant. In 1973 she attended N.I.A.C.C., where she obtained her L.P.N. degree. She worked at Park Hospital, later North Iowa Medical Center. In 1990 she graduated from Iowa Central Community College with a R.N. degree. She continued to work at North Iowa and later Mercy Medical Center North Iowa retiring in 1996.

Shirley enjoyed listening to music, dancing, quilting, her flower beds, her cats and especially being with her family.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, Iowa.

She is survived by her three children: Shelley Garlock, Clear Lake, Iowa, Jeffrey Brattrud and his wife Cindy, Clear Lake and Scott Brattrud and wife Karo, Clear Lake; six grandchildren Mikki Guerdet and her husband Al, Charles City, Iowa, Erik Bergman and his wife Jessica, Cedar Falls, Iowa, Zack McCauley, Waterloo, Iowa, Dain Mann, Clear Lake, Iowa, Jenna Brattrud, Cedar Falls, Iowa and Ryan Brattrud, Cedar Falls, Iowa; great grandson Cayden Brager; very special cousin Pauline VanHeel,Mason City, Iowa; her best friend Ginger Braun, Mason City, Iowa and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Don and Bud Klang; two sisters Marge McMurray and Louise Wilhelm and a son-in-law Dennis Garlock.
