CLEAR LAKE, IA — Gaylord Arthur Brattrud, 91, of 710 N Sixth St., Clear Lake, died Wednesday (Sept. 8, 2004) at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Christian Church, 302 Highway 18 West, Clear Lake. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake.

Gaylord was born Dec. 17, 1912, at Hanlontown, the son of George & Agnes (Overbye) Brattrud. Gaylord attended school at Hanlontown and farmed with his dad. Gaylord hoboed his way to Washington state to work in the orchards. He sold magazines throughout the United States.

Gaylord entered the service during World War II and returned to Hanlontown following his discharge.

Gaylord married Shirley Klang on Nov. 11, 1951, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He worked for the Great Lakes then Williams Brothers' Pipeline for 36 years, retiring in 1974.

Gaylord enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and listening to old-time music. He was a real handyman and loved his family and having them around. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.

Gaylord is survived by his wife, Shirley Brattrud; three children: Shelley (Dennis) Garlock, Jeffrey (Cindy) Brattrud, and Scott (Karo) Brattrud, all of Clear Lake; six grandchildren: Mikki Bergman of Charles City, Erik (Jessica) Bergman of Cedar Falls, Zack McCauley of Clear Lake, Dain Mann, Ventura, Jenna Brattrud and Ryan Brattrud both of Clear Lake; one great-grandson, Cayden Brager, of Ventura; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Kermeth, Orville and Lawrence Brattrud; and a sister, Florence Kallheim.
