ROCHESTER, Minn. — Margie Fay (Awe) Bracken was born May 2, 1922, in Alden, the daughter of Roy and Margaret Awe, and died peacefully April 1, 2004, in Rochester, Minn.

In honor of her wishes, we celebrate her life and all the beauty she created. From early in her life, she blazed a trail that touched lives and led her down many paths.

Margie and her husband, Donald Bracken, met in high school in Mason City, graduating in 1939. They were later wed in Washington, D.C., on May 2, 1942.

Marge and Don's travels in the military took them many places around the world. Among the fondest memories were their four years in Athens, Greece, in the early 1960s, where Marge served as secretary for the American Community Schools of Athens.

After retirement from the military, they spent 38 wonderful years in San Antonio, Texas. Marge became a NCMA master teacher in the art of professional ceramics and nurtured the creativeness of many students during her teaching years. She wrote four craft guidance handbooks which were published in 1977.

Three years ago, she and Donald moved to Rochester to be closer to family.

Marge is survived by her husband, Donald, of Rochester, Minn.; two daughters, Barbara, and her husband, Dick Smith, of Sumner, and Penny Bracken of Rochester, Minn.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, in the Continental Room of the Hanford Inn, Highway 122 West, Mason City, to celebrate and honor Marge's wonderful life. The Rev. Paul C. Nelson of the St. James Lutheran Church, Mason City, will preside at the memorial service.
