June 21, 1996MASON CITY -- Guadalupe "Lupe" Arispe, 87, of 603 S. Carolina Ave., died Wednesday (June 19, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 412 N. Broadway, Manly, with the Rev. Thomas McAndrew officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Manly.
Visitation will begin after 5 p.m. today at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 Spring St., Manly, where a Spanish rosary will be said at 7 p.m., followed by a Scriptural wake service.
Mrs. Arispe was born July 3, 1908, at Morelia, Mexico, daughter of Anastacio and Frances (Ruiz) Mejia. She attended school near Austin, Texas.
She married Ben Arispe on April 17, 1928, at New Brownsville, Texas. They moved to Manly in 1939. For the last 10 years, Mrs. Arispe has resided in Mason City.
She will be fondly remembered by her family as being a wonderful mother, mother-in-law and grandmother.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren.
She will be sadly missed.
Survivors include two sons, Frank Arispe of Arkansas, and Pete Arispe of Manly; five daughters, Mrs. Jesse (Angie) Diaz of Mason City; Mrs. William (Mary) Starkey of Magnolia, Del.; Mrs. Joseph (Sylvia) Jimenez of Portland, Ore.; Mrs. John (Marcella "Margie") Marth of Charles City, and Mrs. John (Mary Ellen) Ginder of Mason City; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Tony Mejia of St. Paul, Minn., and Phil Mejia of Mason City; three sisters, Mrs. Julian (Sylvia) Mujica of Mason City; Jessie Zalazar of St. Paul, Minn., and Mary Becker of Charles City; a daughter-in-law, Carmen Arispe of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Arispe was preceded in death by her husband, Ben, on July 10, 1979; eight children, Christina, Ned, John I, John II, Angel, Anastacio, Valentine and Paul; two sisters, Lola Escabedo and Gabina Rodrigues; and one brother, Joe Mejia.
