Kathryn C. Espinosa, 85, formerly of Mason City, died peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at her niece's home in Atlantic.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Rodney M. Allers as Celebrant. Committal services will follow in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass on Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church.

Kathryn Cecilia Espinosa was born on Nov. 9, 1926, in Mason City, the daughter of Pablo and Petra Espinosa. She attended Mason City schools and went to work for Armour in Mason City, where she would work until her eventual retirement. She was an avid softball player, and was inducted into the River City Hall of Fame for her accomplishments. She was also an active participant in bowling leagues, having won many trophies over the years.

In her free time, Kathryn enjoyed fishing, playing cards, tending to her garden and meeting her friends for coffee. Kathryn had a heart of gold and cherished the time spent with family. She loved to see her nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, always having a small treat for them anytime they'd visit. Kathryn also had a love for animals, and particularly for her dogs, which were always at her side and held a special place in her heart.

She was also a devoted and lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Kathryn is survived by two sisters, Susan Rubalcava, and Della (Jerome) Dix; two brothers, Lawrence (Gladys) Espinosa, and Paul "Blackie" (Mavis) Espinosa; and many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Tony Lopez, John Espinosa, Leo Espinosa, and Floyd Espinosa; and her sisters, Mildred Garnica, Martha Baltierra, Francis Espinosa and Josephine Chavez.
