Donald S. Elder, 91, of 148 Lakeview Drive, died Thursday (July 4, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Other arrangements are incomplete at Major Erickson Funeral Home.

Donald S. Elder, 91, of 148 Lakeview Drive, died Thursday (July 4, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Impatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, 119 South Georgia Ave., with the Rev. Sharon Betsworth officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

Donald S. Elder was born July 2, 1905, in Mason City, a son of Howard and Anna Z. (Seney) Elder. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1923, Mason City Junior College (North Iowa Area Community College) then from the University of Iowa in 1927.

Don returned to Mason City to begin working for Mason City Lumber. He would become president of Mason City Lumber before he retired in 1975 after 48 years in the lumber business.

Don married Jacquelyn Temple July 14, 1929. She died May 20, 1964. On May 28, 1966, he married Beth Sherman Struble.

Don was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mason City Rotary Club, Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 375, Senior Chamber of Commerce and Delta Sigma Phi and, in earlier years, enjoyed horseback riding and boats.

Survivors include his wife, Beth Elder of Mason City; two daughters, Mary Ann Wilson and husband, Robert, of Mason City and Dixie Banks of Adel; two stepdaughters, Ann Norris and husband, Ernest, of Huron, Ohio, and Mary Jean Peters and husband, William, of Morristown, N.J.; six grandchildren, Mark and wife, Molly Wilson, Scott and wife, Robin Wilson, Carrie and husband, Brian Barie, Christy and husband, Richard Spooner, Katie and husband, James Lacona, and Stacy Banks; two stepgrandchildren, Gregory and wife, Betsy Anderson, and Jenna and husband, Eric Samuels; 14 great- grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
