Madonna Edel, 87 of Mason City, died Wednesday (August 31st, 2005) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 am Saturday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka celebrating. Interment will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM Friday at Hogen-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City, with C.D.A. of Rosary 5:00p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Hospice of North Iowa.

Madonna was born January 2nd, 1918, in Lawler, Iowa, the daughter of James and Josephine Feeney. After graduating from Mount Mercy College she lived in Van Horn, Cresco, and Mason City where she taught school and directed the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Choir. While teaching in Mason City she met and married Elmer W. Edel. Feb. 7th, 1948.

After marrying Madonna began a career with World Book Educational Products that span over 60 years. She was the number one division manager for the Iowa Branch for fifteen years. She received the Eagle Award, World Book’s highest award for hiring, training and promoting managers to the Division level.

In 1993 Mount Mercy College awarded Madonna the Professional Achievement Award. The award is presented to a graduate who has made a significant contribution in his or her chosen field.

Madonna was an accomplished pianist who enjoyed playing and singing Irish melodies. She had a warm personality who made friends with everyone she met. May her children, grandchildren, and those whose lives she touched keep her warmth in their heart.

The family would like to thank Hospice of North Iowa for their tender loving care of their mother and wife in her final days.

She is survived by her loving husband, Elmer, Mason City, IA and her son Stephen (Cathy) Edel Minneapolis, MN, and her daughters Susan (Jacob) Beck, Boulder, CO, Ellen (Jerry) McAndrews Lenexa, Kansas, Elizabeth (Stephen) Gales, Mason City, her loving grandchildren, Chelsea Satter, Laura McAndrews, Patrick McAndrews, Matthew McAndrews, Nicholas Gales, Jenna Gales, Julia Gales and her brother James Feeney (Patricia), Wayzata Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters Mary Daly, Sister Helen Marie Feeney and Lois Knapp and a son David Edel.
