Mason City - Elmer W. Edel, 88, of 2060 S. Kentucky, died Tuesday (February 27, 2007) at Muse Norris Hospice in-patient unit, Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday (March 10, 2007) at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 5th St SE, Mason City, with Rev. Harry H. Koelker, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City where full military honors will be conducted by members of Mason City Veteran’s Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 A. M. until the Mass on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Memorials may be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Newman Catholic Schools.

Elmer W. Edel was born February 16, 1919 at Haverhill, Iowa a son of Charles and Anna (Stalzer) Edel. He was united in marriage to Madonna Feeney on February 7, 1948 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City.

Elmer attended St. Joseph Catholic Schools, Mason City and was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School and the University of Iowa. He served in the US Army Air Force as a pilot for B-24 aircraft. Following his discharge, Elmer returned to Mason City where he began Edel Music Company, which he operated for over 45 years, retiring in 1998.

He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He held memberships at St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.

Elmer is survived by three daughters, Susan (Jacob) Beck, Boulder, Colo.; Ellen (Jerry) McAndrews, Lenexa, Kans.; Elizabeth (Stephen) Gales, Mason City; a son, Stephen (Cathy) Edel, Minneapolis, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Chelsea Satter, Laura McAndrews, Patrick McAndrews, Matthew McAndrews, Mitzi McAndrews, Nicholas Gales, Jenna Gales, and Julia Gales; a sister, Joan Stover, St. Paul, Minn.; a brother in-law, John Hofler, Nora Springs; and many nieces and nephews.

His parents, wife Madonna, a son, David; brother, Clair, sisters, Alice, Irene, Esther, Shirley, Louise, Barbara, and Karen preceded him in death.
