Leon "Lee" W. Maring, 72 of Remer, Minnesota, formerly of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday (Jan. 30, 1996) at his son's home in Clear Lake.

Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kermit Roisen officiating.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake.

February 01, 1996 - Leon "Lee" William Maring, 72, of Remer, formerly of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday (Jan. 30, 1996) at his son's home at Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 1996, at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kermit Roisen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. Military honors will be by the Clear Lake VFW. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Leon W. Maring Memorial Fund.

Leon was born June 25, 1923, at Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Leon G. and Lillian (Stolte) Maring. He graduated from West High School, Waterloo, in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard a tanker for three and one-half years. After his discharge, he was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone. He worked as a cable splicer for the company from 1946 until his retirement in 1978.

On June 14, 1947, he was united in marriage to Imelda M. O'Connell at St. John's Church, Waterloo.

During his working years, Leon was active in Hawkeye Telephone Pioneers, serving as past president of the Northeast Chapter. He was also past president of the l Communication Workers of America, Neighborhood Commission of Boy Scouts, and a volunteer instructor for adult Red Cross swimming.

Upon his retirement in 1978, Leon moved to a lake home near Remer, where he resided until the time of his death. During retirement, he pursued hobbies in fishing, boating and woodworking. He was a member of 772 Longville VFW Post, Longville, Minn.

He is survived by his wife, Imelda, of Remer; four children, Barbara Karoli, of Edina, Minn., and her son, Timothy; William L. Maring and his wife, Sharon, of Clear Lake, and their three daughters, Carmen, Tanya and Laura; June McManus and her husband, Jim, of Baton Rouge, La., and their two sons, Britton and Benjamin; and John F. Maring and his wife, Torey, of Houston, Texas; and two sisters, Marguerite Hinson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Arlene Lormor and her husband, Don, of Albuquerque, N.M.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Gordon, Gerald and Marvyl Maring.
