November 12, 2007Robert L. Helm, of Phoenix, AZ, died Tuesday, November 6 on his 76th birthday at Hospice of Arizona in Scottsdale, AZ. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday (November 12, 2007) at the First United Methodist Church WAYside Chapel, 119 South Georgia Ave. with the Rev. Jim Stiles officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with Veterans Honors performed by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army or Hospice of Arizona. .
Robert Louis Helm was born November 6, 1931 in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Harold and Alice (Priebe) Helm. He was a graduate of Mason City High School, class of 1949. Bob was a veteran and served in the Army during the Korean War. He spent his entire professional career with Deckers/Armour Food Company/Conagra which took him from Mason City to Portland, Oregon, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, Louisville, Kentucky and finally Phoenix where he retired in 1985 as Vice President of Operations.
Bob is survived by daughter, Marti and son-in-law Bryan Falk of Acworth, Georgia, son Eric and daughter-in-law Dorinda of Hardinsburg, Indiana, grandchildren Rob Kim of Bellingham, Washington, Jimmy Knott of Acworth, Georgia, Andrea Davis of Corydon, Indiana, Craig Davis, Lisa Helm, and Sara Helm, all of Hardinsburg, Indiana, one great grandchild; siblings Betty Spina of Clive, Harold Helm Jr. of Mason City, Larry (Jean) Helm of Orange Park, Florida, Mary (Larry) Spina of Des Moines, John Helm of Mason City, and Linda (Jay) Daly of Cedar Rapids, sister-in-law Mary Hansen-Harrison of Des Moines, and brother-in-law Jim (Diana) Nipps of Sheridan, Wyoming, many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law William and Alice (Carmen) Nipps, beloved wife Margaret, brother-in-law Joe Spina, and sister-in-law Sara Helm.
