Samuel Arthur Davis, 64, passed away Monday (Jan. 1, 1996) at a hospital in Roseburg, Ore., of cancer. Mr. Davis, formerly of Mason City, was born July 10, 1931, to Harold A. and Claire E. Davis in Mason City.

He attended Mason City schools before entering the U.S. Army, and was released with an honorable discharge.

He married JoAnn Helen Reyerson on March 5, 1955, in Mason City. He lived in Cedar Rapids before moving to Lapuente, Calif,. around 1956. He later moved his family to Roseburg, Ore., in 1968.

He worked various heavy construction jobs and was a member of the Labor Union there. His work included reconstruction of the Winchester Dam, Umpqua Community College Gym, and the Nebo Construction Site. He eventually retired at the age of 55 due to his health.

His hobbies included C.B. radio, and he was known as ``Little Bear.'' He also enjoyed woodworking and carpentry.

Mr. Davis is survived by a son, Lonnie, and his wife, Debra Davis; a grandson, Garrett Allen Davis; a stepgrandson, two step-granddaughters, and a stepgreat-grandchild, all from Salem, Ore.; four sisters, Jane and her husband, Victor Mikkelson of Pine, Ariz.; May and her husband, Max Bonds of Colville, Wash.; Ruth A. and her husband, Donald Redeker of Mason City, and Glinda and her husband, Jerry Buirge of Jacksonville, Fla.; a special friend, Sandy Martin; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Davis in May 1990 in Roseburg, Ore.; his parents, Harold A. and Claire Davis; an infant brother, Ray; a sister, Rena Davis Hoggatt of Stockton, Calif.; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Wilson's Chapel of the Roses Funeral Home, Roseburg, Ore. Memorial services were held at Roseburg V.A. Cemetery on Friday (Jan. 5, 1996). Later, a private committal service was held at Eagle Point National Cemetery, Eagle Point, Ore.
